The Cosira Group is pleased to announce that work is progressing well on the recently awarded supply contract for the Riversdale Benga Coal Processing and Wash Plant (CPWP) project, located in Mozambique.
According to John da Silva, CEO of the Cosira Group, one of the largest structural steel fabricators in Southern Africa, Sedgman awarded the Riversdale Benga Mine supply contract for the structural and platework to the Cosira Group in June this year, with the installation portion of the contract awarded to a separate contractor. This Coal Handling Plant is the second contract that Cosira is executing for Sedgman after the ATCOM Coal Handling and Preparation Plant, also awarded to the Cosira Group earlier this year.
The contract, which is due for completion in January 2011, requires the detailing, fabrication and supply of approximately 1 680 tonnes of structural steelwork and platework, including all associated grating, hand-railing, sheeting and fasteners.
“The Tete and Moatize areas of Mozambique have great growth potential, and therefore we were delighted to be awarded this contact in the coal rich area of Tete, which will see significant development over the next decade,” added Cosira’s General Manager, Contracts Barend du Toit.
All detailing and fabrication is being completed at Cosira’s state-of-the art manufacturing facility, Cosira Vulcan. According to Eugene Blignaut, an Estimator for the Cosira Group, one of the challenges that Cosira faces on this contract is the fact that the project has been significantly fast-tracked for completion. “However, despite the tight deadline, at the moment we are on track to completing the project within the client’s required timeframe,” says Blignaut.
The client will also be able to track the progress of work at all times, by utilising Cosira's state-of-the art enterprise logistics system, Magellan, which allows the Cosira Group to plan ahead, keep track of all parts throughout the production and plant process, and be proactive in correcting any discrepancies well ahead of time. Furthermore, the client is able to track their order at any stage of the process by logging onto the Cosira intranet.
“Both Sedgman and the expansion of the coal industry in the Tete and Moatize region of Mozambique are very important for the Cosira Group’s establishment in the Moatize area, and its goal of offering services closer to the ‘coal face’ of operations in the area,” says da Silva, “Furthermore, we intend to offer our full structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, platework and piping services and expertise in the area and it is for this reason that we have established a permanent presence and company in Mozambique. We believe that this will play a very important role in Cosira’s future growth strategy,” he concluded.
