Cosira Group’s Electrical & Instrumentation subsidiary celebrates its first full year in operation.

Far from being the ideal time to start up a business, in the midst of the prevailing 2009 economic downturn, Cosira Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) – a subsidiary of the Cosira Group - thrived in spite of the circumstances, by adapting their original business approach and focusing on sectors which remained buoyant, such as coal and infrastructure.
This is according to Brian Christie, Managing Director, of Cosira E&I.
“We established the business in 2008, to enhance the comprehensive turnkey offering of the Cosira Group; and the Electrical and Instrumentation (E & I) subsidiary has achieved its first full year of operation successfully, despite having started in a very challenging economic recession,” says Christie.
As a result, this new venture has shown the industry what it takes to succeed. Highlights include obtaining CIDB Registration for electrical building and infrastructure projects, as well as obtaining vendor registration with key mining sector clients. Cosira E & I was furthermore involved in major mining upgrade projects over the past year.
The subsidiary is headed by Brian, with Erick Grippaldi as Construction director. Together, they have more than 40 years of E & I project experience with leading industry sector companies. Glenn Rowden completes the team with an equally solid industry track-record.
“The Cosira E & I proposals department is now seeing an increase in the number of tenders being issued, which bodes well for the industry. However, I believe that it will still be some time before there is the same level of work available that there was pre-recession” concludes Christie.
“With their client-focused culture of entrepreneurship and flexibility, the fit and synergy with the Cosira Group was ideal, and they have persevered despite challenging circumstances during the recent recession. Their E & I offering is also now added to all future prospective tenders in the mining, petrochemical, light industry, power generation and transmission, telecommunications and commercial sectors that the Group undertakes,” comments the Cosira Group CEO, John da Silva.
